Gaudí was mistaken for a beggar
In his youth, Antoni Gaudí was a stylish young man, but after a series of hardships from the death of his niece and friend to financial difficulties and work-related problems, Gaudí transformed into a frugal person who neglected his appearance. One day, while walking he was hit by a tram and didn’t receive much attention because he was mistaken for a beggar due to his worn-out clothes. It wasn’t until the next day that a chaplain from the Sagrada Família recognized him as the famous architect. By then, his injuries had already gotten so bad there was no way to help him and he ultimately passed away three days later.
