A lovely experience! After getting our tickets online, we arrived close to sunset, and it turned out to be a perfect time for visiting. It has got to be the most unique building I have ever been in. We are glad to have climbed the towers for panoramic views with the sun setting behind the city. The audio guide was quite convenient as we were taking everything in exploring the Sagrada Família at our own pace.
The pictures do not do it justice as there are so many details, and the church itself is huge. The towers and their facades catch your attention right away. The audio guide was easy to download and install, so no complaints there. Gaudi’s life was fascinating. I never knew he was adored by Salvador Dali, but hated by Pablo Picasso. My favorite part has to be the Main Nave, especially in combination with light coming in through stained glass windows. Overall, a must-see in Barcelona for sure!

Antoni Gaudi worked on the tower until his death in 1926 when he was struck by a tram. After Gaudi’s death, the project was taken over by his disciple Domenec Sugranyes. A decade later, during the Spanish Civil War, plans and pictures were burnt. Thankfully, the project was able to continue due to salvaging Gaudi’s plans from his workshop. Today, the Sagrada Família boasts over 3 million visitors yearly making it Spain’s most visited monument.
