Amazing tour of the Sagrada Família!
This Sagrada Família guided tour is a must if you’re in Barcelona! Our guide Maria was amazing. She told us all about the symbolism behind the basilica’s facade, altars, towers, and so many other parts. It was impressive to learn that each part of the building holds meaning. We also climbed the Sagrada Tower and loved seeing how beautiful Barcelona was from so high up!
Great tour with great guide
We had an incredible guide, Paulo! He was so knowledgeable and shared many details about each element of Sagrada Família and we learned so much about its architecture. I especially enjoyed seeing the stained glass windows and how the light passes through them, it was one of the most beautiful things. I was also surprised at how huge the interior is. We couldn’t ask for a better tour of the Sagrada Família!

FACADES OF THE SAGRADA FAMÍLIA
Sagrada Família is the largest unfinished Catholic Church in the world. Combining the Spanish Late Gothic and Art Nouveau styles, it has a projected completion date of around 2026, which is 144 years after the construction began. Your Sagrada Família guided tour will start on the outside by your guide explaining the symbolism behind the intricate facades. For example, the oldest facade, The Nativity Facade, was completed in 1930 and is dedicated to the birth of Jesus. On the west side of the building, you’ll see the Passion Facade representing the suffering and crucifixion of Christ. You’ll also notice that it has a different, more minimalist design.
BASILICA’S BEAUTIFUL INTERIOR
After that, your guide will lead you to the inside and explain the rich Christian iconography and symbolism of the basilica’s architecture. You will notice Gaudí’s connection with nature as you look at columns that resemble trees and form a “forest of stone”. While inside you will also be captivated by the colorful stained glass windows that change from cool blues and greens in the east to warm reds and oranges in the west, symbolizing the passage of time and life.
RESTING PLACE OF ANTONI GAUDÍ
Next, you will see the main altar which is built on top of the crypt where Antoni Gaudí is buried. The altar is positioned 2 meters higher than the rest of the space facing the sun to symbolize resurrection and new life. Above the altar, you will also see a large bronze crucifix, depicting Christ on the cross.
MUSEUM GAUDÍ
After exploring the basilica you can opt to climb one of the 170 meters (558 feet) high towers for panoramic views of Barcelona, from which you can see the city’s landmarks and its beautiful Mediterranean coastline. During your tour, you will also visit the Museum Gaudí, located beneath the basilica, where you can learn more details about Gaudí’s life, explore models and sketches of his work, visit the crypt where masses are still held, and stand above Gaudí's burial site from the viewing platform.

Did you know that Sagrada Família is the tallest religious building in Europe?
Sagrada Família stretches up to an incredible 170 meters (558 feet) making it the tallest religious building in Europe. The previous record holder was the German Ulm Minister but Sagrada Família surpassed it by 13 meters (98 feet). An interesting thing is that the Sagrada Família's height was intentionally designed to match Montjuïc's peak, a hill in Barcelona that is considered holy.
All of this is part of our guided tour, and there’s nothing to worry about—your Sagrada Família tickets with tower access are already taken care of.
Good to know before you go
