Everyone should climb to Sagrada Towers!
A lovely experience! After getting our tickets online, we arrived close to sunset, and it turned out to be a perfect time for visiting. It has got to be the most unique building I have ever been in. We are glad to have climbed the towers for panoramic views with the sun setting behind the city. The audio guide was quite convenient as we were taking everything in exploring the Sagrada Família at our own pace.
It was great to finally visit the Sagrada in person
The pictures do not do it justice as there are so many details, and the church itself is huge. The towers and their facades catch your attention right away. The audio guide was easy to download and install, so no complaints there. Gaudi’s life was fascinating. I never knew he was adored by Salvador Dali, but hated by Pablo Picasso. My favorite part has to be the Main Nave, especially in combination with light coming in through stained glass windows. Overall, a must-see in Barcelona for sure!

OBSERVE THE TOWER FACADES
There are three facades on the Sagrada Família, The Passion Facade, the Nativity Facade, and the Glory Facade. Different facades are meant to represent different points in Jesus Christ’s life. Take a walk toward the East side of the basilica to find the Nativity Facade. The most famous facade which is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This facade depicts the birth of Jesus Christ. It was the most influenced by Antoni Gaudi out of the three facades. To find the Passion Facade, go around to the West side of Sagrada Família. The Passion Facade is dedicated to the passion of Christ. In contrast to the amazingly detailed Nativity Facade, the Passion Facade is meant to depict the bleakness of Jesus’ death. Thus, the level of detail is purposely toned down. The Glory Facade is the only one still unfinished. It will depict the glory of Christ and the Afterlife, the towers will also be the tallest out of all three facades. To see the progress on it, go to the south-facing side of Sagrada Família.
INSIDE THE SAGRADA FAMÍLIA
Once you enter the Sagrada Família, you will find yourself in the Main Nave looking at enormous columns resembling very tall trees. Accompanied by the light going through the stained glass windows, different colors fall on the basilica interior providing an amazing atmosphere altogether. Afterwards, you can visit the Crypt, where architect Antoni Gaudí was buried. Also, visit the Sagrada Familia Museum, where you can learn about the significance of various elements on display.
CLIMBING THE TOWERS
The best parting gift from this impressive 564-foot (172-meter) tall structure would be to climb the Nativity Tower and the Passion Tower. At the top of the Nativity Tower, you will find stunning views of Barcelona along with the surrounding mountains. The Passion Tower, on the other hand, provides beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Did you know that Antoni Gaudi was not the first architect to work on the Sagrada Família?
In 1882, the first plans for the Sagrada Família were done by Francisco de Paula del Villar. The initial plans do not resemble the current Sagrada Família even slightly as they were done in a Neo-Gothic style. The next year, the project was already in Antoni Gaudi’s hands who had made significant changes in the stylistic direction. Antoni Gaudi worked on the tower until he died in 1926 when he was struck by a tram. After Gaudi’s death, the project was taken over by his disciple Domenec Sugranyes. A decade later, during the Spanish Civil War, plans and pictures were burnt. Thankfully, the project was able to continue due to salvaging Gaudi’s plans from his workshop. Today, the Sagrada Família boasts over 3 million visitors yearly making it Spain’s most visited monument. To discover more fascinating stories like this and truly understand Gaudí’s masterpiece, choose the best Sagrada Família tour for your visit.
